Original Cartoons of Fantasy Art Creatures, Particularly Those that Children Would Enjoy (contest)

For this contest, the focus is on cartooning as it relates to the theme of our group, which is fantasy art.

There are a number of winners for this contest. The first 4 were chosen by Fine Art America members. There are also two first-place winners:

FIRST PLACE
"The Book" by Moira Risen
available for sale HERE

As promised to the artists, here is what it can look like framed:

framed versions of this piece can be found HERE
use drop-downs to choose frame types and mats

The mat is off-white

As mentioned there are two second place winners (though they are the same artist):

SECOND PLACE (tied)
"Garden of the Imagination" by Michael Baker

THIRD PLACE

To fill out the blog post, I chose from the remaining works submitted for the following categories: Most Unusual, Most Creative and Most Fun (please note they are "remaining pieces" and I could have chosen the works above for those categories, but wanted to expose other art):

MOST UNUSUAL
"Steam Paddlefish" by Graham Wallwork
available for sale HERE

MOST CREATIVE
"Miss Fairy Pierrette" by Quim Abella
available for sale HERE

For "Most Fun" I chose several art works. I tried to keep it within a realm of what children might like.

At the end, I slipped in a surprise category and piece of art work.

MOST FUN I
"Toys, Joys and Baby Moon" by Nancy Lee Moran
available for sale HERE

MOST FUN II
"Steampunk Fluffy Bird" by Roseann Amaranto

Pegasus, Winged Horse (contest)

For this contest, the focus is on the Pegasus, or winged horse.

There are a number of winners for this contest. The first three winners were chosen by Fine Art America members as follows:

FIRST PLACE
"Wind Pegasus" by Mike Uriel
available for sale HERE

As promised, here is an example of what it looks like framed:
Framed prints of this piece are available HERE
use drop-downs to choose frame types and mats
This frame is GL8 in the orange frame category with a white mat

SECOND PLACE
"Pegasus The Winged Horse" by Daniel Eskridge
available for sale HERE

THIRD PLACE
"Pegasus Flight Olympus" by Quim Abella
available for sale HERE

These are all beautiful renditions of Pegasus and I would have placed all three at the top too. Thanks to all Fine Art America members as well as members of our team for putting all three at the top.

For the remaining post I chose works left over from the top three for most creative, most unusual and most fun. I also felt that there needed to be more images, or even another category, to show some that I felt should not be overlooked because the works are highly skilled and beautiful.

Note: a first place winner for most creative or most unusual could have been any of the above (and all are highly creative and unusual), but for the sake of allowing others a chance at being featured on this post, I am choosing from the remaining works as follows:

MOST CREATIVE
"Pegasus" by Robert Roth
available for sale HERE

MOST UNUSUAL
"Hydracorn" by Katherine Nutt
available for sale HERE

I liked Troy Brown's work, "Belles Garnier" for this category also, but there were nudes in his piece, and it isn't allowed on a Google blog without a lot of rigmarole that would compromise how many people can look at the blog, but here is a teaser (a section of his piece):

a portion of "Belles Garnier" by Troy Brown (because of Google policy)
visit Troy Brown's website HERE

Next is for "most fun" category. I chose this one because of the high fantastical setting, fun costuming and mane-less winged horse:

MOST FUN
"Winged Horse I" by Barroa Artworks
available for sale HERE

Next up are some others I thought took a lot of skill, or that I thought were too beautiful to leave out.

I loved this next one because of the internal glowing colors such as a candle or lantern might emit, the high detail, and the setting was so nicely executed. Putterhug Studio, the maker of this piece, has won a number of our contests and it should be obvious why:

"Pegasus and the Maiden" by Putterhug Studio
available for sale HERE

Three others follow:

"Fairytale Landscape with Pegasus" by Louise Lavallee
available for sale HERE

"Autumn Pegasus" by Daniel Eskridge
available for sale HERE

"Pegasus Across the Northern Sky" by Philip Harvey
available for sale HERE

Fantasy Insects (contest)

For this contest, the idea was to produce a piece that was a fantasy insect, something that is not in the real world, but that is made up. There are fantasy artists who have tried their hand at new species.

There are a number of winners for this contest.

There were two first place winners chosen by the Fine Art America community (as well as for second place and third place):

FIRST PLACE (tied)
"Balancing Act" by Hans Neuhart
available for sale HERE

FIRST PLACE (tied)
"Ascension" by Putterhug Studio
available for sale HERE

As promised, this is an idea of how both can be framed:

THIRD PLACE (tied)
"Ladybug With Parachute" by Mihaela Pater
available for sale HERE

THIRD PLACE (tied)
"Insect Masquerade Party" by Laurie's Intuitive
available for sale HERE

To make a more interesting blog post, I chose a number of other art works including most creative, most unusual and most fun. I choose new art work from the remaining entries, though some of the winners above could just as easily have taken these prizes.

These are the ones:

In most creative category:
"Night Butterflies" by Mihaela Pater

In most unusual category:
"De Flosh" by Bob Ivens
available for sale HERE

In the most fun category there are four art works:

Aliens and Alien Spacecraft

"Interstellar" by Kathy Kelly
FIRST PLACE WINNER
(this piece is available for sale HERE)

Kathy Kelly describes her piece this way:

This surrealistic piece by Kathy Kelly depicts an interstellar struggle. The work is both feminine and mystical with cool colors of blue, green, fading to black.

I have always enjoyed the works of Salvador Dali and later, the works of painter and digital artists Marco Escobedo and Yossi Kotler.

The piece depicts a female face with a helmet of electrodes all of which are peeled back to reveal an alien face. Stars and space matter abound.

This is an idea of how you can frame the piece (framed prints with your choice of frame and mat is also for sale):

(available for sale HERE)
to get to this particular frame go to black frames in the drop-down:
it is BGD11, and the mat is white

How about this image on a tote bag (also for sale)?:

(available for sale in a number of sizes HERE)

Here are winners for second and third place:

"Double" by Alexa Szlavics
SECOND PLACE WINNER
(this piece is available for sale HERE)

"Beyond Space and Time" by
THIRD PLACE WINNER
this piece is available for sale HERE)

The public (Fine Art America members) picked the first three.

I picked the other artists to feature below, including most creative, most unusual and most fun. I do this half heartedly because so many of the entrants are so good! If I had voted for first, second and third for this contest, however, I would have voted the same way as the public - a first for me. And if I had to pick most creative, most unusual and most fun, I would have picked the top three winners for those categories too.

However, to make it more interesting, I have picked other pieces that came very close (for me) to the top three.

These are the ones:

In the most creative category:
 "Nurisha" by Robert Ross
(this piece is available for sale HERE)

In most unusual category:
"Mission in a Far Planet" by Alexa Szlavics
(this piece is available for sale HERE)

In the most fun category there are four art works:

"Knurr" by WB Johnston
(this piece is available for sale HERE)

"My Ride is Here" by Brian Wallace
(this piece is available for sale HERE)

"Animal - Cow - They Came For The Beef" by Mike Savad
(this piece is available for sale HERE)

"Aliens Like it Hot" by William Dey
(this piece is available for sale HERE)
